WASHINGTON, D.C. (4/17/2025) – The Don’t Break What Works campaign released the following statement responding to today’s verdict in the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) lawsuit seeking to break Google’s advertising products and services:
“The court today rightly dismissed many of the DOJ’s claims in its lawsuit targeting Google’s ad tech. Unfortunately, the Justice Department’s continued pursuit to punish Google for its success in a narrow part of the advertising ecosystem threatens to set a troubling precedent for America’s innovators,” said Kate Brown, a spokeswoman for the Don’t Break What Works campaign. “The current advertising market is dynamic and full of choice, with companies constantly innovating to deliver value to help businesses reach customers across platforms and devices. However, the DOJ’s case against Google threatens to weaken competition in the advertising space to the benefit of Google’s large competitors. As a result, the government risks sending a message to American innovators that success will be met with targeted, heavy-handed regulation and threatens to raise costs for the small- and medium-sized businesses that prefer and choose to use Google’s suite of advertising tools,” she continued.
