CCIA’s Don’t Break What Works Campaign Releases Statement on Verdict in Epic Games v. Google

Washington, D.C. (12/12/2023) CCIA’s “Don’t Break What Works” campaign released the following statement regarding the wrongly decided lawsuit between Epic Games and Google:

“This verdict is just the first step in a lengthy legal process between Google and Epic Games, a multi-billion dollar corporation posturing as a champion for small app developers,” said Don’t Break What Works spokeswoman Chandler Smith Costello. “Epic’s lawsuit is a transparent effort to increase its own bottom line at the expense of small app creators, nearly all of whom pay no app store fee and benefit from the current highly competitive app store system.”

“The simple fact is that Epic Games’ lawsuit puts its own business interests above all else. The company has repeatedly ignored the reality that it doesn’t even have to conduct transactions through Google, and Epic’s claims risk setting a precedent that poses a serious threat to competition and innovation in the app industry.”
