Don’t Break What Works Issues Statement on Need to Bolster Economic Resiliency

Washington, D.C. (6/5/2024) – After senators discussed their views on the role of competition in bolstering economic resiliency in a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing today, the Don’t Break What Works campaign issued the following statement:

“Robust competition is necessary to strengthen the foundation of our economy and equip the American government, businesses and citizens to resist disruptions to our supply chains and infrastructure. In fact, robust competition in the tech sector has spurred American companies to become among the most innovative companies in the world. These companies have helped maintain our competitive edge on the global stage and defend against foreign adversaries,” said Chandler Smith Costello, a spokeswoman for the Don’t Break What Works campaign.

“We appreciate the committee’s efforts to illuminate areas where monopolies exist. Unfortunately, to date, congressional and administrative efforts have remained disproportionately focused on bolstering certain competitors in the tech space, even as American tech drives growth, creates jobs, and helps keep our nation safe. Today’s hearing helped to demonstrate how this focus is misplaced.”
